A Letter to Parents and Guardians from our Executive Director | Please Read

The Intermediate Unit 1 Educational Campus at McMurray contributes to the mission of Intermediate Unit 1 by providing quality services to assure students success as they prepare to meet the challenges within a high-tech information based society. Knowledgeable, skilled staff with fully equipped facilities further enriches the students’ learning.

The Campus at McMurray offers several classes that meet the changing needs of the students and families, including early intervention and school-age classes.

Programs

Multi-Disability Support

The Multi-Disability Support program provides services for early intervention, elementary and secondary age students (grades kindergarten to age 21) with more than one disability that results in severe impairment requiring necessary services for independent living. Student instruction is based on the alternative academics standards; social behaviors; pre-vocational, daily living communication skills; and community-based instruction. Other related services provided are based on a student’s individualized education program (IEP).

Autism Support (School-Age)

The Autism Support (School-Age) program provides academic, communication, sensory, and behavioral services to secondary age students up to age 21 that have been diagnosed with one of the autism spectrum disorders. The program is highly structured with an emphasis on behavior modification and encourages independence and self-sufficiency in the areas of communication, community-based instruction, functional academics, vocational, leisure, and social skills. Each classroom utilizes the Training and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH) model.

Comprehensive Therapeutic Emotional Support Program

The Comprehensive Therapeutic Emotional Support (CTES) program is designed for those students who are in need of a therapeutic educational setting to address their mental health or emotional needs. Our campus is equipped to take students into this program in grades K–12. Students in these classrooms receive a minimum of three hours of group and individual therapy per day with master's degree level licensed social workers, as well as medication management on site through a psychiatrist as requested.

Alternative Education

An alternative school is any school that offers an “alternative” from a traditional school. Some students are just unable to learn in a traditional school setting and need a school that is more accommodating to their unique needs. The IU 1 Educational Campus at McMurray educational program is aligned to the Pennsylvania Standards and Anchors in safe orderly environments.

Facilities

The resources at the IU1 Educational Campus at McMurray are designed to meet students’ needs of all ages. Air-conditioned classrooms are equipped with readily available technology such as computers, SMART tables and boards, and restrooms.

The facilities include an indoor gym, multipurpose room, outside playground, and courtyard play area and all are available to students at the Campus at McMurray.
